2. National regulations

The main national regulations are listed in the "For further information" section. Decree no. 2001-387 of May 3, 2001 defines the general framework for the inspection of measuring instruments and the list of instrument categories subject to inspection.

We should also mention the decree of April 12, 2006 mentioned in the previous paragraph, which transposed the MID directive, and decree no. 91-330 of March 27, 1991, as amended, on non-automatic weighing instruments, which transposed directive 90/384/EEC of June 20, 1990. These instruments include scales intended for direct sale to the public.

Three conditions must be met for a category to be subject to state control. The instruments must :

  • determine quantities measured in legal units ;

  • be used for the operations...
