3. Definitions and semantics

The recent emergence of bio-inspiration in what we might call its "modern era" leads us to question its sub-concepts and their respective semantic fields. Today, this contribution appears to be necessary, if not essential, in the development of a bio-inspiration that is sufficiently structured to meet the needs of industry and its relative needs.

3.1 Bio-inspiration and related concepts

The field of bio-inspiration is characterized by an abundance of terms. In the literature, the first to appear was the term biomimetic, which is attributed according to the Oxford English Dictionary to the index to volume 132 of Science magazine in December 1960.
