5. Conclusion

All living organisms, insects and humans alike, are subject to much the same constraints. Both thrive on the earth, and over the millennia have found ways of coping with them. However, the approaches of the two groups are very different, even opposed. In the field of energy, since the mastery of fire, mankind has rapidly turned away from renewable energies that are difficult to control. This is not the case for other living organisms, and insects in particular, who have to cope with the various hazards of life with limited resources. Structures have emerged, particularly on the nanometric scale, to manage exchanges between the organism – a relatively stable environment from a physico-chemical point of view – and the outside world, which is extremely variable. Having passed through the formidable filter of natural selection, those that have come down to us have demonstrated their effectiveness....
