3. Conclusion

At the end of this process of reflection, we need to reformulate our proposals and draw up a more general rule.

To meet the demands of sustainable development, the different types of R&D in the building and civil engineering sector need to be clearly distinguished from one another.

The sector has traditionally had a penchant for developing technical innovations. However, their dissemination is always slow. In the light of sustainable development, this phenomenon seems logical, as there is in fact a reversal of priorities: technical research must serve market expectations, and not the other way round. This observation can be illustrated by the diagram in figure 15 a.
