  • Filtration has many applications in breweries. They vary according to the type of beer and the brewing stage concerned: separation of wort from spent grain, green beer, tank bottom yeast and end-of-age beer.

    • Among the various brewing stages, filtration-clarification is of the utmost importance, as it ensures that the beer is clear and presents itself well to the consumer.

      This operation, which follows the maturation and stabilization stages and precedes packaging, is the most studied stage and presents the most relevant technical and economic challenge for breweries.

      Filtration has determined the quality of finished beer since it was first introduced in Germany by L. A. Enzinger after 1878.
