Conventional filter press filtration with filter aid (kieselguhr) is standard industrial practice, but is increasingly criticized from a health, environmental and economic point of view. The opportunity to carry out filtration using alternative and/or regenerable adjuvants, or without adjuvant at all (membrane separation, studied later in this article [F 3 261] ) therefore seems very attractive and meets a particularly strong societal and industrial need.
