3. Prevention approach

3.1 Objectives

Protecting people, and especially workers, from the risks of physical and mental harm is a concern for plant operators. It has also become a concern for designers and manufacturers of equipment, machines and industrial facilities. It is always more effective and more economical (greater efficiency for less investment) when it is integrated into projects right from the design stage of buildings, equipment and installations.

Consultation is at the heart of this approach. It must be implemented in liaison not only with all those who play a role in the company's operations, but also with external stakeholders. There are at least three reasons for this:
