7. Choice of solutions for tool design

The design itself is always the result of a choice between solutions that meet the functional specifications more or less well. Design applies to all solutions, whether tangible (equipment, plant) or intangible (procedures, rules, interventions).

7.1 Different types of solutions

We distinguish four types of solution, which must be studied in the stated order to avoid backtracking:

  • solutions involving product or process modification. The product and process are generally unchanging basic data in a project.
