7.1 React as quickly as possible

You don't have to wait until you're faced with an emergency situation to put in place strategies for the early detection of problems with measuring instruments.

Calibration/verification of measuring instruments has the enormous disadvantage of only being able to detect anomalies a posteriori. For measurement processes involved in critical stages of production processes, it is imperative to put in place monitoring strategies that can detect anomalies early on. This is where the old adage "prevention is better than cure" comes into its own.
