What is a public utility easement?

In France, public utility easements are administrative servitudes that must be appended to the local urban development plan, in accordance with article L. 126-1 of the French Code de l’Urbanisme .

They establish, on the initiative of the administration, for reasons of public utility, limits to the right of ownership and use of the land.
