1.1 High Level Structure (HLS)
ISO 14001 was first published in 1996. It was revised in 2004, then in 2015 in its harmonized "HLS" version. This structure is now common to all management standards. It enables the development of a coherent approach and a common rationale based on risks and opportunities. This structure facilitates the integration of environmental management system (EMS) requirements with those of other management systems.
This harmonized format ensures consistency between future and revised management standards, simplifies their integrated use and makes them easier for users to read and understand.
