Major accident
An event such as a major emission, fire or explosion resulting from uncontrolled development during operation, causing a serious immediate or delayed danger to human health or the environment, inside or outside the establishment, and involving one or more dangerous substances or preparations.
Defense barrier
A defensive barrier is either a piece of safety equipment, or an operation performed by an operator to prevent the chain of events that could lead to a major accident.
