1. Distinguishing between certification, accreditation, and approval

These concepts are often confused. While all three aim to guarantee a result, they do not operate under the same conditions and do not have the same scope.

1.1 Certification

Certification is the recognition by a third party that the activity of a person or company complies with requirements specified in a reference system.

For example, QSE (Quality, Safety, and Environment) certification attests that the organization has implemented an "integrated" management system in accordance with applicable ISO standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 145001).
