INTRODUCTION
Oxidation-reduction phenomena are involved in all areas of water treatment technology. Their general principles were outlined in a first article (Oxidation and reduction applied to water treatment – General principles). A second article (Oxidation and reduction applied to water treatment – Oxygen, chlorine and derivatives) was devoted to the most traditional oxidants.
This article examines :
other oxidants (including ozone);
advanced" oxidation processes, combining ozone and/or hydrogen peroxide and/or UV rays and/or catalysts... ;
reducers, commonly used but more limited than oxidizers.
The main applications and implementation methods of oxidation-reduction in water technologies will be developed in a final article in conjunction with the articles in the Environment section:
