4. Confrontation with expert judgement
Once the acquisition and processing chain was operational, it became necessary to compare it with the technicians' judgement in order to :
collect a database of test images ;
develop the cleanliness measurement, based on the experience of experts ;
develop automatic membrane classification.

In order to correlate the system's results with the technicians' qualitative assessments, seven experts were brought together on the same day, in the same place, to work on a database of images of 45 membranes from various sugar factories.
