The purpose of this report is to provide an initial overview of constructive approaches to the challenges posed by incorporating sustainable development into the built environment. How can we ensure a contribution to sustainable development?If the concept of sustainable development is taken in its most immediate sense, then it must be acknowledged that any action undertaken from this perspective must first and foremost be resource-efficient. The prudent use of available resources is, in fact, a guarantee of “responsibility” toward future decision-making capacity.
Our society is increasingly concerned about the environmental impact of our activities. We now know that this impact is mainly due to energy overconsumption. Buildings, which are our primary concern, are responsible for 25% of greenhouse gas emissions and 40% of energy consumption in France. Consequently, tools have been created to design low-carbon and energy-efficient building projects. These thermal modeling tools are different from regulatory tools, and are named dynamic thermal simulation tools. These tools are also used to ensure energy results based on actual consumption.
The life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a comparative tool for environmental assessment of any human activity. The realization of an LCA takes place in four stages: goals definition, inventory of input and output, assessment of potential impacts on the environment and interpretation. The objective of this article is to present this tool in an exhaustive and synthetic way. This article first presents the LCA history. It then describes the main methodological steps. The last parts focus on its applications and limitations.

Consequently, it is important to understand the limits of each participant's mission, and how they coordinate their assigned tasks.
This article deals with the impact of BIM on architecture. After a recall of the structure of architecture agencies and the architect’s work itself, the consequences of BIM on this fast-evolving activity are shown.The process of architectural design is underlined along with the compilation of data related to all disciplines. The article describes the required skills, those to be learned, and trends in the architect’s role among the various trades involved. It gives some background to the BIM process to successfully transition from traditional methods to the new ones using new technologies.Examples are also presented to illustrate the BIM process in different project phases.Finally, mention is made of fees, the law governing public contracts, and the readjustments needed.
Today, the BIM (Building Information Model/Modeling/Management) methodology is becoming almost essential in construction projects. To meet certain challenges related to the complexity of this new method as well as that of the projects themselves, professionals are using task automation.This article presents first the BIM as well as its limits and possibilities of automation, then three examples of applications developed in an architecture agency. They will cover the interoperability between software, the mass data integration and the cross-interpretation of plans and spreadsheets. These examples show the many possibilities offered by automation solutions, while revealing new issues.
