 INTRODUCTION

The construction sector is one of the most important in our economy, but with over 20% of workplace accidents and occupational illnesses and 7% of the workforce, it remains a high-risk sector, even if it has managed to more than halve the number of fatal accidents over the past twenty-five years.

All those involved in the construction process are concerned by occupational risk prevention: clients, project managers, safety coordinators, contractors (including subcontractors) and self-employed workers.

A general obligation to organize and coordinate prevention applies to each of these players, and first and foremost to the project owner and project management team in charge of designing the structure, selecting contractors, managing the work and planning subsequent interventions on the structure.

Each party involved in the construction process is also responsible for assessing occupational risks and defining the preventive measures to be implemented during work and maintenance.

This dossier presents the building and civil engineering sector and its specific features, and shows how we can move from prevention of work in the company to prevention of joint work on the worksite.
