4. Reflection and refraction

Since, in an isotropic solid, a compression wave L (longitudinally polarized) and a shear wave T (transversely polarized) can propagate, any wave of vector k I originating from an isotropic solid (1) arriving on a surface in rigid contact with an isotropic solid (2) is, in principle, capable of generating :

  • two reflected waves (L 1 , T 1 ), of vectors k L1 , and k T1 in solid (1) ;

  • two refracted waves (L 2 , T 2 ), of vectors k L2 and k ...
