     INTRODUCTION

    The basic theory of machines has long been an important part of the literature on general mechanics.

    Indeed, if we take as our basis Reuleaux's definition: "A machine is an assembly of resistant bodies, arranged in such a way as to force mechanical forces to act, giving rise to determined movements", we see that the basic terms are those of dynamics.

    Today, it is absent, even in works devoted to engineers. Moreover, there are few specialized works on the subject; to our knowledge, none in French.

    It is to partly fill this gap that this basic article on machine dynamics has been written. It deals mainly with the general writing of the equation of motion of a machine and the forms it can take. A few indications are given for methods of general interest, such as the torque uniformity method.

    Note :

    This article is part of a series of articles dealing with General Mechanics, so the reader will need to refer often enough to the mathematical developments studied previously in the articles :

    • General dynamics. Analytical form ;
