 INTRODUCTION

Although the 18-electron rule is a basic rule in organometallic chemistry, there are exceptions. In particular, there are a few compounds in which the metal is stably surrounded by 16 electrons. In these cases, an addition to 18 electrons is possible. This is usually accompanied by oxidation, hence the name oxidative addition reaction.
