3. General principles of technical prevention and deterrence

The technical, logistical and financial criteria that come into play when choosing an authentication solution depend on a number of factors:

  • the characteristics of the marking(s) ;

  • control levels and methods ;

  • the necessary information systems ;

  • safety requirements ;

  • resistance to counterfeiting ;

  • the value of the physical assets to be protected ;

  • the risks associated with counterfeiting throughout the life cycle of the material good.

Authentication solutions must not affect product suitability for use or integrity.
