10. Certification

To sell, it's not enough to comply with certain technical requirements; you also have to prove it, and this is one of the roles of certification.

Certification is a procedure whereby a third party provides written assurance that a product, process or company conforms to specified requirements.

Certifying bodies may be private, but they must themselves be accredited by a national body: in France, COFRAC (Comité français d'accréditation), created in June 1994, is called upon to play this role.
