The Common Market, which became the European Economic Community (EEC), then the European Community (EC) and now the European Union (EU), occupies a special place. Thanks to the four freedoms of movement (of goods, people, services and capital), common trade policies and the euro, it's much easier to sell or set up business in the enlarged Europe than in the rest of the world. The European Union combines a common external tariff (CET), a single currency, sectoral policies and strong institutional restructuring. This model is characterized by a high degree of economic deepening and integration, as well as shared sovereignty - even in non-economic areas - as a result of a unique history marked by two wars and the massive reconstruction aid effort provided by the United States after the Second World War.
