ABSTRACT

MAkAir is an open-source project for the development of a bi-branch mechanical ventilator, a class IIB medical device.

MakAir is an initiative founded in March 2020 by the collective "Makers for Life", resulting from the combined initiatives of entrepreneurs, academics and health professionals, engineers; all dedicated to treat respiratory distress of type COVID-19.

This disruptive innovation, developed in a time of crisis, is based on free software and open design: "Low-tech/Low-cost" because composed of biocompatible materials and standard electronic components, "High-tech" because computer-controlled.
