7. Criminal and administrative penalties
The French Environment Code provides for specific criminal or administrative fines in the event of failure to comply with the legal and regulatory rules it lays down. These financial penalties are indicated in the relevant paragraphs of this article in Techniques de l'ingénieur.
In addition, the authorities have a more comprehensive repressive arsenal at their disposal, as they can ask companies to justify that the waste generated, at whatever stage, by the products they manufacture, import or export, is managed in compliance with waste prevention rules, especially EPR rules (C. env. art. L541-9 III).
