1. Challenges of Preventive Maintenance

The operational availability of a complex industrial system depends heavily on the reliability of its constituent components. These components, made of a wide variety of materials (metals, composites, concrete, ceramics, etc.), undergo a gradual degradation of their initial characteristics over their lifecycle as a result of operating conditions and their environment. It is therefore essential to have effective tools capable of detecting and monitoring the progression of this degradation before a failure occurs, which would compromise the system’s required functions.

From this perspective, the goal of preventive maintenance is to offer technically effective and economically sound solutions that make it possible to anticipate and control equipment degradation.
