Failure; failure

The loss of an item's ability to perform a required function.

Degradation; degradation

A harmful change in physical condition that occurs over time, through use, or due to an external cause.

Maintenance; maintenance

The set of all technical, administrative, and management actions taken throughout the life cycle of an asset, intended to maintain or restore it to a condition in which it can perform its required function.

Condition-based preventive maintenance; condition-based maintenance

Preventive maintenance, which includes assessing the physical condition of equipment, analyzing it, and taking any resulting maintenance actions.
