7. Methods of "Predictive" Preventive Maintenance
Predictive preventive maintenance is performed based on a forecast derived from repeated analyses or known characteristics, as well as an assessment of the key parameters related to equipment degradation. Its primary objective is to predict when a failure might occur and, consequently, to prevent that failure by carrying out the appropriate maintenance actions. This approach corresponds to the concept of prognostics, defined in ISO 13381 as the estimation of the remaining time to failure and the risk of the existence or subsequent occurrence of one or more failure modes.
