8. Kinetic modeling of the oxidation of stabilized polymers

The oxidation kinetics of stabilized polymers are always at a level of complexity beyond the reach of conventional analytical methods. The use of numerical tools is therefore mandatory. Despite the power of these tools, it is important to simplify the schemes as much as possible, especially if you want to use the system in the inverse approach to determine certain kinetic parameters.

To illustrate our approach, we'll take the example of a polymer stabilized by a synergistic mixture of phenol (AH) and hydroperoxide decomposer (D).

Here, the action of phenol is reduced to two pseudo-elementary reactions, and that of the hydroperoxide decomposer to a single reaction. The simplest mechanistic scheme is as follows (see
