3. Comparative properties

Tables 1 and 2 give the mechanical properties of parts obtained using the R-RIM (short fibers) and S-RIM (long fibers, mats and fabrics) processes.

Whatever the organic matrix used, the R-RIM process, using short fibers, achieves flexural moduli of 450 to 1,500 MPa. On the other hand, the S-RIM process, using long fibers, makes it possible to increase the glass load, combine it with other carbon-type fibers and achieve flexural moduli of 40,000 MPa.
