2. Architecture of conventional injection molding machines

2.1 Overall architecture

The standard injection molding machine consists of a frame, a clamping unit and an injection unit. The backrest deals with the functions and constructive solutions for realizing the functions of these components.

The direction of mold opening and closing movements is horizontal. This allows parts to fall out during ejection, and provides good access to clamping unit components.

The axis of the injection unit is horizontal. Granules are fed by gravity. The action of gravity on the flow of molten material is generally negligible, as viscosity forces are much greater than the action of gravity. Easy access to the injection unit.
