7. Thermal metrology in an injection mold: flow sensors
Injection molding instrumentation is essential to process control. Measuring pressures and temperatures during forming is the starting point for in-depth analysis and understanding of injection molding process problems. These measurements provide highly relevant information on processing conditions with regard to tool design. Numerous phenomena can be highlighted with the right instrumentation:
excessive pressure drop in the feed system (sprue, hot block, etc.) ;
premature setting of injection thresholds ;
imbalance in cavity filling ;
abnormal mechanical movement ;
thermal anomalies (tool inertia, heterogeneity, regulation, etc.).
