12. Conclusion
The purpose of this article is to briefly and succinctly explain the main requirements of ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU that must be applied to a product so that it can be used in explosive atmospheres.
Although the essential requirements and assessment procedures have not changed since the publication of Directive 94/9/EC, it is advisable for a manufacturer to follow the state of the art as defined by the harmonized standards under Directive ATEX 2014/34/EU, which are intended to keep pace with technical developments.
For the time being, however, there are no plans to amend the ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU. On the other hand, a number of wishes have already been expressed, such as: standardizing assessment procedures for each category and for each type of equipment: electrical and non-electrical.
