2. Scope of Directive 2014/34/EU
Directive 2014/34/EU, like Directive 94/9/EC previously, applies to equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres, i.e. atmospheres which are liable, as a result of local (including atmospheric) and operational conditions, to become explosive due to the presence of a mixture with air of flammable substances in the form of gases, vapors, mists or combustible dusts.
This directive therefore applies to equipment and protective systems intended for use in firedamp mines and other locations where there is a risk of explosion.
Equipment includes machines, materials, fixed or mobile devices, controls, instrumentation and detection and prevention systems which, alone or in combination, are intended for the production, transport, storage, measurement, regulation, conversion...
