The analysis of failure modes and their effects, with or without their criticality, is a logical and common-sense approach. Admitting that no system is infallible, it consists in identifying, describing and assessing the risks arising from failures. Well-structured and systematic, FMEA(C) enables you to achieve this objective with confidence.
It is relevant whenever the failure modes of components and the internal workings of the system are, or can be, well known. It should accompany the life of any system designed and built with human brains and hands.
