3. Bin explosion

3.1 Description of the phenomenon

The tank explosion phenomenon results from the ignition of a flammable atmosphere inside the storage tank. This explosion leads to a loss of containment of the tank (loss of the roof, damage to the liner). In the case of non-frangible tanks, the tank may be thrown several metres from its original position (section 2.1.2.1
