1. What is a CMR (carcinogenic, mutagenic, reprotoxic) agent?
A carcinogen is a substance or mixture that can cause cancer or increase its incidence.
A mutagen is a substance or mixture that can produce hereditary genetic defects or increase their frequency.
A reproductive toxicant is a substance or mixture that may produce or increase the frequency of non-heritable adverse effects in the offspring, or impair reproductive functions or capacity.
There are three categories of CMRs in the CLP Regulation EC No. 1272/2008:
category 1 A: substances and preparations known to be CMR for humans ;
category 1 B: substances and preparations for which there is a strong presumption that exposure to humans may produce CMR effects or increase their frequency;
