5. LPG transport accidents

Despite all the safety precautions in place for LPG transport, accidents can still happen.

When it comes to transporting LPG, since it is used in particular for heating homes, demand for LPG is at its highest during the winter period. Indeed, in this period of economic crisis, customers tend to wait until the last moment to have their supplies delivered, and the number of partial deliveries (i.e. without "filling up", corresponding to 85% of the tank's capacity to leave a sufficient gas phase to cope with temperature changes) is growing, which increases the number of deliveries to be made.

The vast majority of LPG tanker customers are located in rural areas. Indeed, LPG is particularly well represented in areas not served by the natural gas network. To make deliveries to end-customers, the driver often has to use departmental and communal...
