ABSTRACT

Many elements are present in water circuits: linking, sectioning, storing, surveillance, protection elements, etc. The operating principle of volumetric or dynamic pumps is linked to the mode of transmission of the fluid and also has an impact on the choice of related equipment. Meeting functional needs is the main parameter to be taken into consideration when selecting these various components. In-depth knowledge of the technologies of these linking parts, clacks, diaphragms and valves is essential. The detailed description of the characteristics and operating constraints of these elements allows for the successful design of a water system.

 INTRODUCTION

This article deals more specifically with the components that need to be chosen to satisfy a given functional requirement, when designing a fluid system. It provides a reminder of the technology involved, with descriptions and selection advice.

The main elements encountered on fluid systems, and which we discuss in this article, are as follows:

  • connecting elements (piping, fittings, etc.) ;

  • shut-off devices (valves, dampers, etc.) ;

  • motor components (positive displacement pumps, centrifugal pumps, etc.) ;

  • storage elements (storage reserve, collection box, etc.);

  • monitoring elements (type of measurement, measurement technique, etc.);

  • protective elements (valve, vacuum breaker, rupture disk, pressure reducer, etc.).

Mechanical (support), electrical and thermal insulation components are not covered in this article.
