3. Introduction to blade design with cooling

In this section, we'll take a closer look at the sizing of the cooling system, assuming that the blading profile is known, even if this assumption is arbitrary, especially for high-temperature stages where the aerodynamic design and that of the cooling system require continuous adjustment of both results until the objective is achieved.

In concrete terms, the objective when sizing a cooled blading system is to achieve the best possible efficiency while maintaining an acceptable temperature in the blading metal to ensure adequate resistance to mechanical stress and erosion under actual operating conditions. In general, even if the blading is small, the temperature gradients in the blading metal are very high.
