2. Balancing criteria

Every time an industrial control operation is carried out, the result must be compared with a criterion. The same applies to balancing. Machine construction standards and codes (or contracts) lay down criteria. Some examples are given below.

2.1 Residual unbalance

  • The ISO 1940-1 standard, which is general for all types of machine, but relates to rigid rotors, gives balancing classes, such as :

    • G 250 for large, fast 4-cylinder diesel engines ;

    • G 100 for complete car, truck and locomotive engines;

    • G 40 for car wheels, engine crankshafts ;

    • G 16 for propeller shafts ;
