4. Conclusion

This text deals with the problem of synchronizers. After presenting the state of the art, the relationship between the synchronizer and the gearbox was studied. The subject of gearshift comfort was also addressed. The roles of synchronizer geometry and materials were also discussed in detail. This is the most delicate part of the determination.

Following this, the shifting process was refined and eight main phases of synchronizer operation were defined. The phases were delineated using measured speed change data. These phases were described using classical theories of tribology, mechanics and thermodynamics. The main assumption of axisymmetry was adopted throughout the calculations.
