Electropneumatic power modulators are used in the much more general context of continuously controlled electropneumatic systems. The term refers to a technology for components and processes that use pressurized air as a power transmission element, with continuous control provided by electrical quantities. This technology is often misleadingly referred to as "proportional pneumatics". These systems are based on the synergy of disciplines such as automation, electronics, computer science and fluid and solid mechanics, and therefore meet the definition of mechatronic systems.
