2. Shear springs

The shear spring is a rubber prism to each of whose bases a metal plate has been attached. With one plate attached, the other is forced to move parallel to the first by a force P located in its plane.

Shear work has little effect on the modulus of elasticity G as long as the form factor is greater than 0.5; but it is always accompanied by bending, for which a variable modulus of elasticity E must be considered.

The contribution of shear to deflection is given by : fc=αPHSG
