 INTRODUCTION

Linked to developments dating back more than ten years, the implementation of EN 1591 for the calculation of gasketed circular flange joints is still recent (October 2001), and most manufacturers are reluctant to use it in their calculations due to a lack of confidence. This lack of confidence is partly due to the lack of known real-life applications, as well as persistent doubts about the final formulation of the equations in the text of the standard.

At the request of its "Boilermaking-Piping" commission, Cetim has reproduced the equations contained in the standard, based on document CR 13642, in order to help mechanics better understand the standard, as well as its limits and possible application problems.
