4. Brazed joints

It should be remembered that brazed joints can only reasonably transmit shear forces in the overlap plane. The shear strength of brazed joints depends first and foremost on the brazing alloy, but also on manufacturing parameters such as :

  • the clearance j between parts at brazing temperature,

  • the width a r of the overlap (or interlocking),

  • surface roughness R a .

The resistant capacity of the brazed joint is calculated on the basis of a shear stress value obtained experimentally using tensile/shear tests defined by a normative document (NF EN 12797)
