Prosthetic and digital dentistry: the state of play

The expansion of CAD/CAM dentistry for prosthetic dentistry, particularly in terms of the development and marketing of new digital technologies and dental bio-materials, is leading to changes in the professions of dentist and dental technician. These changes are beginning to enter the social debate, both among patients and among national and international political bodies. These various players are questioning the introduction of digital technologies in dental practices, hospital departments and dental laboratories, and their impact on the quality of care and cost to society.
