5.1 Automatic cutting with thumbwheel
5.1.1 Cutting monolithic glass
This is the most widely used cutting method. It is used for soda-lime silicate glass in thicknesses from 2 to 19 mm.
Until 1950, the operator, known as the "cutter", worked on a fixed table covered with a felt mat. He scribed with a diamond wheel mounted on a hand-held tool holder, while manual breaking was carried out with a ruler.
