6. Conclusion

Machining low-machinability materials, such as superalloys and titanium alloys, is feasible using most conventional machining processes, but it is only the use of advanced processes that leads to a high level of productivity. A good knowledge of the particularities of these processes, and of the properties of the materials being machined, is invaluable in controlling and optimizing machining conditions, while ensuring the quality of the machined surfaces.

For the future, the main developments that can be expected in the machining of these materials are as follows.

  • High-speed milling (HSM) is set to grow in popularity, thanks to its positive impact on machining times and costs. It could at least partially replace electrochemical machining (ECM), thanks to its greater flexibility and lower environmental impact....
