4. Conclusion

Cyclic plastic deformation was taken into account on a simple notch geometry to enable the local elastoplastic approach to be applied. Using tests with constant or variable amplitude, we have shown that this local approach, implemented with the nSoft software, enables us to predict a safe service life for a notched part. This approach should also be applicable to bolted assemblies.

This approach currently appears to be a reliable tool for predicting the service life of notched parts and screwed joints. Further work is required to implement finite element post-processing. In the case of screwed joints, other complementary aspects will certainly need to be taken into account in the future (evolution of load distribution on threads, contact and fretting problems, thread failure due to bending, etc.).
